NGINX performs compression before sending responses to clients, but does not "double compress" responses that are already compressed (for example, a proxy server).
Edit one of the configuration files, [drive]:\path\to\nginx\conf\nginx.conf or /etc/nginx/nginx.conf as shown below. To enable compression, include the gzip directives with the parameters.
