List editing can be configured to allow users to create and manage lists of items in the List Edit control. You can also create list documents to manage lists.

  • By first selecting Modeless Forms on the Windows tab of the Change User Preferences dialog box, multiple windows can be opened at the same time from the List Edit control.

  • When editing documents in a List Edit control relationship column or in the Edit Relationships dialog box, the name of the document is followed by the applicable revision or version information.

    • For documents revisions, the name is followed by the applicable revision information of the object. For example, DOC01 (A1).

    • For documents versions, the name is followed by the applicable revision and version information of the object. For example, DOC01 (A1, 1).

    • All other objects have the name only.

The List Edit control allows users to edit and format lists of data. You can copy and paste objects, create new objects, and edit and delete objects.

  • The List Edit control is capable of exporting to Excel.

  • You can configure the List Edit control to be opened by a command on a shortcut menu or by a toolbar button. See List Edit toolbar for details.

  • You can configure the List Edit control to allow users to save a customized list of objects as a list management object. See Saving lists as documents for more information.

For information about how to configure the List Edit control, see List Management Console. Details about using the List Edit control can be found in List Edit window.

From this console, you can:

  • Configure a list to edit with the List Edit control.

    • Create a new method, configure access groups for the method, and create a new column set relationship to the interface definition.

    • See Create a new list for details.

  • Copy an existing list to use as a starting point for a new list to edit with the List Edit control.

See Copy a list for more information.

  • Delete a list.

  • Edit a list.

    • You can update method arguments and parameters, configure access groups for the method, and manage the column set items to be used in the List Edit control.

    • See Edit a list.

You can also configure lists with document management capability and configure lists on additional interfaces with the List Management Console's advanced mode. See List Management Console advanced mode for details.

List Edit in the Web Client

List Edit requires no configuration to allow you to edit some objects and data types in a results table in the Web Client. However, you must still configure the object type column set items in the Desktop Client in order to edit other object types using List Edit in the Web Client.

The ability to create specific objects and data types in the Web Client using LIST EDIT must be configured by adding the specific object create method to the object List Edit method. For example, you must add the Create Tag method to the List Edit Tags method in the List Management create method property field.
