In the List Management Console's advanced mode, you can configure the same list to be available from more than one interface. For example, you may have created a list for one object class and want to use the same list on another object that shares its properties. Instead of creating a duplicate list, you can attach the list to a common interface or to two separate interfaces, one on each class of object.

You can only specify one class definition per list to use when creating new items in the List Edit control. For this reason, it is recommended that you configure the same list on multiple interfaces only if the list does not support creating new items.

To associate the same list to multiple interfaces, follow these steps:

  1. Select an interface definition from the Interface Definitions section of the console. All existing lists for that interface will appear in the Lists section.

  2. Select a list from the Lists section, and then click Edit Interfaces to manage the interface definitions that are related to that list.

  3. In the Manage Interface Definitions dialog box, add or remove interfaces. When an interface is related to the list, objects that realize the interface can access the method that controls the list.

See Manage related items for more information about how to use this dialog box.

SHARED Tip You can see what interfaces are related to the list on the List Management Console. The column Related Interfaces in the Lists section shows this information.
