A Data Capture Administrator can control the users access to Data Capture modules by configuring the security permissions. Below given are the user access control information applicable to Data Capture modules that are hosted on Smart Cloud:

Document Discovery Pattern (DDP)

In Data Capture, after creating and saving a document discovery pattern using the Document Discovery Pattern module, a document is created in the windows temp directory and then uploaded as a file to vault with a document attached to the file. The user permissions that are applicable to the windows temp directory are listed below:

User type

Type of access to Microsoft Windows temp directory

Data Capture

Not required

Data Capture Application server (Pool identity)

Read and Write

Document Discovery Task (DDT)

The document discovery task created using the Document Discovery Task module, selects and reads files in the associated directory such as Cloud URL share, and loads the files based on the rules applied from the document discovery pattern. The user permissions that are applicable to the cloud URL share are listed below:

User type

Type of access to cloud URL share

Data Capture

Read and Write

Read and write permissions are initially required to create and update the file into the URL share of the client.

Data Capture on application server (Pool identity) For example: SPFUsers account

Read and Write

Read and write permissions allows the application server to read the file and create a .lck file

Tag Discovery Pattern (TDP)

After creating or updating the tag discovery patterns using Tag Discovery Pattern module, Data Capture initially checks for the SPFHotSpotter.ini file attached to the SmartConverter Control object related to the same configuration on a SmartPlant Foundation application server and updates it. If no SmartConverter Control object is related to the same configuration item, SmartPlant Foundation uses the SmartConverter Control object that is related to the parent configuration item. If no SmartConverter Control object is related to the parent configuration item, SmartPlant Foundation uses the default SmartConverter Control object that is related to the ConfigurationTop. If no SmartConverter Control object is related to the ConfigurationTop, then the SPFHotspotter.ini file from [drive]:\Program Files (x86)\SDX\SPFSmartConverter is updated. The user permissions that are applicable to access SPFHotSpotter.ini file are listed below:

User type

Type of access to SPFHotspotter.ini file location

Data Capture

Read and Write

Read and write permissions are required to update the scattered text rules as Data Capture updates only the tag discovery patterns defined in a single row.

Data Capture application server (Pool identity)

Read and Write

Read and write permissions allows the application server to update the SPFHotspotter.ini file.

Data Reader Pattern

After creating and saving the data reader pattern using the Data Reader Pattern module, a document is created in the windows temp directory, and it is uploaded as a file to vault with a document attached to the file. The user permissions that are applicable to the windows temp directory are listed below:

User type

Type of access to Microsoft Windows temp directory

Data Capture

Not required

Data Capture Application server (Pool identity)

Read and Write

Managed Data Task

Data Capture generates and saves the reports in the database, while performing managed data task using the Managed Data Task module. These reports are available at Windows temp directory. After performing the managed data task, these reports can be viewed by clicking their hyperlinks in the Managed Data Task module. The user permissions that are applicable to the windows temp directory are listed below:

User type

Type of access to Microsoft Windows temp directory

Data Capture Application server (Pool identity)

Read

Read and write permissions are required to allow the users to view the reports generated while performing the managed data task.

While exporting the data from Data Capture to the target system by using the Data Validator, .csv and xml files are generated and saved in the path defined in the Data Capture Data Validator Job Definitions page. Data Capture users do not require access to this path.

SmartPlant Foundation related folder permissions

You must set certain folder access permissions for SmartPlant Foundation to work with Smart Cloud in a secure environment. For more information on SmartPlant Foundation folder permissions, see Grant permissions to the folder structure on the server.
