To set up a file server for vault replication at the remote location where you want local file access, you must configure a remote file service using Server Manager.

SHARED Tip You can also configure the remote file service manually, instead of using Server Manager. For details about the manual procedure, see Configure a remote file service manually.

To use this procedure to set up a remote file service virtual directory, you must install the Server component as well as the File Service component on the remote file server.

  1. Run Server Manager on the new file server.

    • Accept or enter a new server root path.

    • Allow Server Manager to set permissions for the server, if desired.

  2. Create a new primary site, with the following stipulations:

    • Make sure the site name matches the site created on the application server. For example, if the site is named SDxSite on the application server, the site on the remote file server should also be named SDxSite.

    • For the database, choose to connect to an existing database, specifying the same database used by the primary site on the application server.

SHARED Tip For more information on creating a site, see Create a new site .

The site you create for hosting the remote file service is not a fully functional SDx site. It can be used only for the remote file service. You cannot log on to this site in the Desktop Client and access data.

After the site has been created, validate that the site on the application server and site on the remote file server have matching values for the file service. In order for the remote file server to be accessed by the application server, the File Service virtual directory property value on the remote file server must match the value entered for the FileServiceDirectory property under the site's Settings node on the application server.

For example, as shown in the following illustrations, on the application server, for the site named SPFSite, under the Settings node, the FileServiceDirectory property is set to SPFSiteFile.

On the remote file server, for the matching site named SPFSite, under the File Service Settings node, the File Service virtual directory property is also set to SPFSiteFile.

The only virtual directories that are required for remote file services are the two file service virtual directories (for example, SPFViewDir and SPFSiteFile).
