The Fuels tab is used to enter the emissions for each fuel type used by the utility company to produce the commodity. Consumption of a given fuel type may result in emissions of one or more greenhouse gases. Those emissions are specified here.

Example #1: The Fuels tab is used to enter the emissions for each fuel type (Coal and Nuclear) used by the utility company (South Carolina Power) to produce the commodity (Electricity).

Using the Fuels tab, specify the following:

  • the consumption of Coal to produce Electricity results in the emission of two greenhouse gases: Carbon dioxide (5 lbs./MWH) and Sulfur hexafluoride (0.002 lbs./MWH)

  • the consumption of Nuclear power to produce Electricity results in the emission of a single greenhouse gas, Nitrous Oxide (0.0008 lbs./MWH)

HxGN EAM uses these emission amounts along with the CO2e Ratio (established on the Greenhouse Gases screen above) to calculate the amount of CO2e emitted to produce one UOM (MWH) of Electricity. Again, referring to Example #1, the production of one MWH of Electricity causes the emission of 47.8 lbs. of CO2e.
