The record view tab includes header information for the compatible units library record such as Compatible Unit code, description and Organization; and other descriptive characteristics and additional details describing the way in which the record may be incorporated into estimates.

The compatible units library details section of this screen includes required fields of Status, Hierarchical level and UOM. All new compatible units library records are created with status of unfinished; and remain in that status until the status is updated by a user to be as active. Only compatible units library records which are of active status are displayed in lookups for CU estimates. Compatible units library records may be assigned with a status of inactive if they are no longer desired to be used for cost estimation or the work order activity generation process; but are still required for internal record-keeping purposes. The default hierarchical level assigned to new compatible units library records for hierarchical level field is ‘Level 1’, which indicates that the compatible units library record may be associated to child CUs of all lower levels (i.e. Level 2-6). If desired, a user may change this default value to that of a lower level in order to be able to create and enforce hierarchical relationships among compatible units library records. Compatible units library records must also indicate a unit of measurement (UOM), which is selected from a lookup displaying all units of measure specified in the system that are not flagged as out of service. The UOM field is particularly useful in identifying compatible units library records that are length or distance-based, which are used for ‘span’ type work points of CU estimates.

Consistent with elsewhere in the system, a user has the option to specify both Department and Class for a compatible units library record. Although the department field is not a required field; if department is not specified compatible units library header, it is useful to note that the system then considers the default (*) department when defaulting CU standard rates for labor, tools and services associated to the compatible units library record.

The user may also choose to specify an Activity Type for the compatible units library record. The optional activity type dropdown displays user code descriptions for all user codes configured for the new Compatible Units Activity Type (ACTP) entity. If Activity Type is specified for a compatible units library record, and the compatible unit is associated more than once on a CU estimate (i.e. the same compatible units library record is associated as both a ‘remove’ and as an ‘install’ at the same work point), then any work order activities that would be generated from the compatible unit are aggregated into a single work order activity. More information regarding the way in which work order activities generated from compatible units library records may be aggregated using the Activity Type field is provided in Generate WO activities section following in this document.

Accounting Code and Fixed Asset Code may also be specified for a compatible units library record. It is expected that these values will align with the regulatory accounting/uniform system of accounts (i.e. FERC accounts) and continuing property records in place within the user’s organization. Valid values for Accounting Code on this screen come from all records not flagged as out of service that have been defined on the new Compatible Units Accounting Codes screen. Valid values for Fixed Asset Code come from records not flagged as out of service on the new Compatible Units Fixed Asset Codes screen which are associated to the selected Accounting Code, or Compatible Units Fixed Asset Codes for which no specific Accounting Code is defined (i.e. ‘generic’ fixed asset codes).

The EAM application does not perform any validation or reconciliation of accounting codes and/or fixed asset codes with the financial accounting system(s) in place within the users organization.

Finally, the user may optionally indicate a reference to a Standard Sheet (i.e. a construction drawing/schematic) for the compatible units library record; and may indicate to mark the compatible units library record as not to factored by any quantity defined on an estimate, by selecting the Include as Total Qty. checkbox.

The Usage Details section of the compatible units library screen provides the ability for a user to designate a record as being available to be associated with a work point through the Available for Work Points checkbox, as available to be associated only with span work points through the Available for Span Only checkbox, and as available to be used only on cost-only type of CU estimates through the Available for Cost Only checkbox. The user may also specify if a compatible units library record should always be overwritten with the accounting code and fixed asset code of a higher-level compatible units library record when it is associated to another record as a child CU, through the Inherit Parent Details checkbox.

Finally, the Equipment Details section of the compatible units library record view also includes an optional field in which the user can specify Equipment Class for any equipment to be created from the work performed on an estimate in which the compatible units library record is used; and any custom fields associated to the equipment class.
