Prior to performing cost calculations for the compatible units records associated to the CU estimate; the system performs a selection procedure, in order to identify the child records of each compatible units library record which are appliable based on the details described on the CU estimate:

  1. For each labor, parts, tools and services record of the compatible unit, the system first compares the Action Type specified for that labor/part/tool/service record to the Action Type specified for the compatible unit on the CU estimate. Only labor, parts, tools and services records which have the same action type (or if the action type is blank, for labor/tools/service records only) as specified for the compatible unit on the CU estimate are considered further in the cost estimation procedure.

As an example, if a compatible unit is associated to a CU estimate with an action type of "Install"; then the system will select only labor, parts, tools and services records that are specified as an action type of "Install" within the compatible units library record when the cost estimation procedure is performed. All labor, parts, tools and services records of the compatible units library record that are specified as "Remove", "Abandon" and "Transfer" will be ignored - they are not relevant for that particular use of the compatible unit in the estimate.

For compatible units associated to a CU estimate with an action of "Remove", "Abandon" and "Transfer", the system ignores part records for which Action Type is blank. Although labor, tools and services records having action type as blank would be included in cost calculations for a CU estimate for any of the actions; parts records are only considered when action type is a non-null value and exactly the same as on the CU estimate.

  2. For each labor record of the compatible unit, the system then compares the values of all Labor Adjustment fields for the labor record to the labor adjustment fields for the compatible unit on the CU estimate. Only labor records which have the same value (or blank) specified for each labor adjustment field as specified for the compatible unit on the CU estimate are then considered during the cost estimation calculations.

  3. For each parts record of the compatible unit, the system then compares the values of all Materials Adjustment fields for the parts record to the materials adjustment fields for the compatible unit on the CU estimate. Only parts records which have the same value (or blank) specified for each materials adjustment field as specified for the compatible unit on the CU estimate are then considered during the cost estimation calculations.

  4. For each tools record of the compatible unit, the system then compares the values of all Tools Adjustment fields for the tools record to the tools adjustment fields for the compatible unit on the CU estimate. Only tools records which have the same value (or blank) specified for each tools adjustment field as specified for the compatible unit on the CU estimate are then considered during the cost estimation calculations.

Several limitations should be noted related to the selection procedure for compatible units library child records, each of which cause the cost estimation process to be stopped.

  • One or more compatible units library record(s) associated to the CU estimate are of inactive status. This scenario could occur if the status of a compatible units library record was changed to Inactive after the compatible unit was added to a CU estimate.

  • The system is unable to select any associated labor records from a compatible units library record. This scenario could occur if he compatible units library record does not include labor records for the action type and/or adjustments specified on the CU estimate.

  • The system selects a Compatible Units Library record which includes a trade, part, or tool that is not available for compatible units. This scenario could occur if the Available for CUs checkbox for the trade, part or tool was unselected after the compatible units library record was created and/or associated to the CU estimate.
