The Compatible Units Overhead Codes screen allows users to define Compatible Units Overhead Codes records that may be applied during the Perform Estimation process which calculates cost details for CU Estimates, depending upon the value of the CUESOVHD Org. option.

Compatible Units Overhead Code records must specify values for a minimum of five required fields: Code, Description, Organization, Apply To, and Overhead Factor. Valid values for the Apply To field are Labor, Parts - Stock, Parts - Non-stock, Services, or Tools; each designating the ‘expense line’ (or a portion of) to which the Overhead Code should apply. The Overhead Factor specified by the user sets the specific scaling value for the overhead code - for example, an overhead factor of ten (10) for an Overhead Code applied to ‘Labor’ will generate a 10% surcharge (indirect cost) which is incorporated into all labor costs of the CU Estimate.

While Parts costs for a CU Estimate are summarized collectively (i.e. for both stock and non-stock parts combined together), the Apply To field for Compatible Units Overhead Codes supports applying overheads to these parts differently.

If desired, a user may optionally indicate an overhead code as of a specific Overhead Type. The Overhead Type field displays the descriptions of all user-defined types for the Compatible Units Overhead Types (OVTP entity). For example, overhead types of "Government", "Private", etc. might be used in cases when an estimator desires to apply a different overhead factor when performing estimation for work to be performed for a government customer, vs. a private/commercial customer.

If the CUESOVHD Org. option is set to ‘YES’ for the organization of a CU estimate record and a user selects the Perform Estimation option for a CU estimate, the system identifies all overhead codes having the either the same Overhead Type as specified on the CU estimate or having no specific Overhead Type (i.e. a generic overhead). The system performs appropriate calculations for overhead amounts related to labor, parts, tools and services for all compatible units of the CU estimate; and adjusts costs in each category for each compatible unit accordingly. A summary value indicating Total Overhead Cost is also generated for the CU estimate.

If the CUESOVHD Org. option is set to ‘NO’ for the organization of a CU estimate record, no overhead calculations are made for the estimate at all.
