A Data Lake is a centralized system or repository for storing data across an enterprise. Many enterprise organizations use Data Lakes as holding areas for information that isn’t immediately used, but that may bring future value. For example, an organization such as a financial institution or hospital system may archive data in a Data Lake based upon regulatory data-retention requirements. In this business case, the organizations are legally required to retain records for a specified, minimum amount of time.
