The risk assessment feature of the Healthcare Edition is based on the Reliability Ranking application found in the EAM Asset Sustainability Edition. The purpose of risk assessments is to provide a tool to determine the risk of assets through established risk criteria. For example, this assessment tool would enable you to conduct a risk assessment of assets and conclude whether they should be included in medical equipment or utility systems management programs, thus maintaining your compliance with The Joint Commission’s Environment of Care requirements. Risk assessments will help formalize the process to determine this risk based on your answers to the risk questions you have configured.

Risk assessments allow users to assign a Risk Assessment Index (RAI) and risk assessment score to assess asset risk. Users must first define criteria by which to assess the risk.

Use the decision tree and develop the formula to calculate the risk assessment score and use the assigned score ranges to determine which RAI should be applied.

To utilize the risk assessment functionality, perform the following tasks:

  1. Create a risk assessment record.

  2. Add levels to the decision tree structure.

  3. Add answers to the decision tree.

  4. Add formulas to the decision tree.

  5. Add normalization values to the decision tree.

  6. Order questions for the decision tree.

  7. Assign ranking scores to risk assessment index values.

  8. Associate assets to a risk assessment.

  9. Answer the risk survey.

  10. Calculate risk assessment values.

Following the detailed procedure for establishing Reliability Rankings in the HxGN EAM User’s Guide, you can create your own hospital-specific risk assessments. Make note that the term Risk Assessment in the Healthcare Edition replaced the term Reliability Ranking in the HxGN EAM.
