The Track as Kit check box on the Part screen cannot be selected if any of the following applies:

Transactions exist
-
Part is included on a Requisition, Purchase Order, RFQ, or a Blanket Order

Part exists on another Kit Template
-
Part has a Preferred Supplier
When a part is designated Track as Kit, the following actions occur:

Track by Asset, Fugitive Gas, and Repairable Spares check boxes are cleared and protected.

Track by Lot and Prevent Reorders check boxes are set and protected.

Tracking Method field set to Stock.

Preferred Supplier field is protected.
When the Track as Kit designation is removed from a part, the above check boxes and fields are unprotected.
