All equipment selected on this tab is included in the investment plan. The equipment selection is a multi-select option for your convenience. And you can enter data on this tab first, although limited to the priority override and the user defined fields before you select equipment. Any already entered data will be saved with the selected equipment.

Most fields on this tab are directly derived from the equipment data like manufacturer, serial number, cost code, etc.

Following is a list of important fields on this tab, some of which are automatically determined.

  • Age - Age is an important field for the investment planning process because it determines when investment options become applicable. For example, an asset that is 4 years at the beginning of the first planning period will have an investment option set to be relevant at age 6 come due in planning period 3. The age displayed on this tab is always the age on the date the equipment was added to this tab, i.e., Date Created. The system uses this date because it is fixed unlike the Start Date on the header record which may still change before you request the start of the planning process.

  • If the equipment does not have a condition index equipment ranking associated or if a ranking is associated but the condition protocol is age-based, then age is Date Created – Commission Date of the equipment. The difference is then divided by 365.

If the equipment has a usage-based protocol attached the system will use the usage data to calculate the age. In that case age is the current Total Usage of the equipment divided by the yearly average usage plus the difference between the date the asset was added to the tab and the date of the last meter reading. Note that:

  • Total Usage and the yearly average are all for the Meter Unit of the equipment.

  • And to determine the yearly average usage, the system uses the Average Daily Usage, if populated. Otherwise, the Estimated Daily Usage is used, if populated. Otherwise yearly average usage is based on the Total Usage divided by the difference between the system date and the equipment commission date.

  • Age Correction - Age correction is usually set at 0 (zero). But a different value may be assigned if condition of the equipment is tracked using a condition index and a correction score is entered for the equipment. For example, a car that is 10 years old should have a condition score of 3 based on the equipment ranking associated. But the car has only 30000 miles on it and is parked in the garage when not in use. So, it is in much better shape and therefore a Correction Condition Score is entered for this car of 5. Let us assume that 5 is normally assigned to cars that are 6 years old. Age Correction therefore will be 6 – 10 = - 4.
Note that an entered Correction Condition Score does not always mean it is used. The entered Correction Date for example cannot be in the future. Or for the usage-based protocols the Correction Usage must be entered, and the yearly average must be greater than 0 (zero). Age Correction will remain at zero if those exceptions are found.

  • Age Increment per Period - This represents the aging of the equipment per planning period which is always 1 for all age-based condition protocols. For usage-based protocols another value may be calculated if all relevant data is present. The system will first determine the expected yearly average for the equipment by taking the Service Life Usage of the equipment and dividing that by its Service Life in years. Then take the yearly average usage (the actual) and divide that by the expected yearly average. So, a car with an expected service life of 10 years and service life usage of 250000 miles will have an expected yearly average of 25000 miles. If that same car has an actual yearly average of 50000 miles, then Age Increment per Period would be 50000 / 25000 = 2

  • Plan Priority - This number is automatically determined if you click the Calculate Plan Priority button. For equipment this will be based on the settings of Include Equipment Criticality and Include Equipment Risk.

  • Priority Override - Enter this number if you do not feel the calculated Plan Priority does the equipment justice. The system will use the override if entered.

  • Valid Investment Option - Selected if one or more valid options are found. Otherwise, unselected. An investment option is valid if:

    • The option is attached to the Equipment Class Definition record with the same Category and Class as that of the equipment. Or if Category is blank on the equipment, the option is attached to the Equipment Class Definition record with the same Class and with a blank Category. This means that equipment with a Class and Category both filled in will not use an Equipment Class Definition record with only a matching Class filled in if it does not find the Category as well.

    • The option is attached to the Equipment Class Definition record with the same Organization as that of the equipment.

    • The option has the same Organization as that of the investment plan record.

    • The option is a refurbishment or a replacement.

    • The option has At Age (years) filled in.

  • Ending Condition Score - The system will set this value automatically after completion of the condition score calculation process. It represents the expected future condition score after all planning periods have passed and all investment options have been applied. The system will also determine and set:

    • Ending Condition Index

    • Ending Condition Date

The tab has the following buttons:

  • Calculate Plan Priority - When you click this button the system will set the Plan Priority for all equipment. This priority is a relative number between the selected equipment and is only used to determine the sequence in which they are processed.
The calculation uses the weight of the Criticality of the equipment if Include Equipment Criticality is selected on the header. Or it uses the Risk Priority Number if Include Equipment Risk is selected on the header. If both are selected it will multiply the weight with the Risk Priority Number. Then the system needs to convert this result to a plan priority. Both the higher weight and the higher Risk Priority Number should result in a higher priority for the associated equipment. For example, if just equipment criticality is used and 5 is the highest weight, then equipment with that weight should get a priority of 1 assigned. The equipment with a weight of 4 should then get a 2, etc. The formula used is as follows: Weight * -1 + Maximum Weight + 1.

If the equipment does not have a Criticality and no Risk Priority Number assigned, or if Include Equipment Criticality and Include Equipment Risk are unselected on the header, this value remains blank.

Note that the weight does not have to be assigned continuous. You can assign weight to criticalities like 1,2,3,8,15. Same goes for Risk Priority Number, which are almost never continuous. And the system also lets you assign weight with decimals, like 5.12. The system will compensate for these scenarios automatically. That is why it is possible that the calculated priorities are also not continuous and could show 1,3,1045,14356, etc. To the system this is irrelevant, and it only interprets this so that the 3 comes after 1 and the 1045 comes after the 3. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • Refresh Age Data - When you click this button the system will recalculate the age-related data for all equipment where Age Refresh Required is selected. You will not likely need to use this button, but if for example the commission date of the equipment changes after you have added the equipment to this tab, then Age was based on the wrong commission date and the system will select Age Refresh Required for that equipment. Changes to the correction score data of the equipment have the same effect.

  • Delete All - this button will delete all equipment from this tab.
