EAM affords linear equipment the same capabilities throughout the system as point equipment. In fact, when equipment is initially defined in EAM, the system assumes the asset is a standard, point type. For example, if you define a stretch of highway as an asset in EAM, the highway is considered a point type asset, just as an air conditioner unit would be considered point equipment.

The highway becomes a linear asset once you define linear references, or associate related equipment along the length of the highway. In EAM, the difference for linear equipment is that with a certain length of linear equipment, work can be performed on any subset of that length or any place on that length. For example, a linear reference along a stretch of highway could be a mile post, exit sign, streetlight, or billboard. Once you define the mile posts, exits signs, or any other linear markers for that highway, the highway becomes a linear asset in the system.

HxGN EAM will also track the history and costs that way as well. HxGN EAM’s linear assets functionality allows you to define an asset’s linear reference details such as an equipment’s length, geographic reference, and unit of measure.
