Isolation points are the focus of your LOTO process. They can be a circuit breaker, a switch on the wall, or equipment you maintain such as a valve. Use the Isolation Points screen to define isolation points as follows:

  1. Isolation Point - Unique identification of the isolation point. If you leave this blank the system automatically assigns a sequence number.

  2. Description - Short description of the isolation point.

  3. Organization - The organization associated to the isolation point.

  4. Status - System Codes entity ILST.

    • Isolation points are under revision control and can only be edited when the Status is Unfinished.

    • Certain fields can be updated when the Status is Request Approval or Approved, but this depends on the Revision Control Setup. See Revision Control Setup.

    • When you approve a new revision:

      • The current approved revision is automatically superseded.

      • If Organization Option LOTOSYNC is YES, the system updates the LOTO tabs of the Equipment and Location screens with a matching organization where the approved isolation point is used, and updates Location Note, Energy Source, Residual Energy, and all UDFs with the new values of the isolation point.

      • If Organization Option LOTORREV is YES, the system updates the LOTO tabs of the Equipment and Location screens with a matching organization where the approved isolation point is used, and clears the review data, rendering the LOTO tab un-reviewed.

  5. Energy Source - System Codes entity ESRC. What is the energy source that must be isolated? Electricity for example.

  6. Residual Energy - System Codes entity RSDE. Residual energy is left-over energy after the isolation. For example, after you switch of the electricity there may still be dangerous tension left in a spring that could be accidentally released. The Residual Energy and Secondary Residual Energy fields are available to identify any residual energy.

  7. Equipment - This is an optional field. Some isolation points are switches on the wall and there is no actual equipment that is identified and maintained. However, if the isolation point is also maintained equipment, use the equipment field to relate them. A good example is a valve.

  8. Location - Another optional field that you can use to identify the location of the isolation point.

  9. Location Note - Free text field you can use to describe the location, if an actual location code does not exist, or it is not clear enough.

  10. Isolated - This check box is automatically set from the Permit to Work screen. The system flags all isolation points that are attached to the permit to work when it goes into an isolated state. The check box is also automatically unselected when the reverse happens on the permit to work.

  11. Date Review Required - Like the Hazards screen.

  12. Revision Details - Like the Hazards screen.

  13. Buttons:

    • Create New Revision - Like the Hazards screen.

    • Standard tabs - Like the Hazards screen.
