Problem

You experience slow performance when loading Hexagon 3D models.

Causes

Here are some common causes for slower performance:

  • A cached file does not exist.

  • Browser settings are limiting performance.

  • Slow network performance and latency.

  • Not enough memory is available on the host device.

  • The Windows 10 operating system defaults to a lower power GPU card if the system power profile is set to conserve battery life (Battery Saver mode).

Solutions

You can expect slower performance if this is the first time the model has been opened for viewing or if you are refreshing the model. This is due to required processes on the server. A cached copy of the file will be stored for faster subsequent views.

To troubleshoot browser settings:

Browser settings can impact viewing performance. Check for these settings:

  • The cache size is set to the maximum allowable size.

  • HTTP compression is disabled.

  • Optimal browser caching policies in both client requests and server responses.

To troubleshoot memory, network performance, and latency issues:

Monitor the CPU usage of the host device. Various platforms have their own proprietary tools for monitoring systems. Consult your infrastructure documentation for detailed information on how to monitor CPU, memory, storage utilization, and network traffic.

To troubleshoot the GPU card:

To determine the GPU card is using, select Settings > Information > GL Renderer, and then check GL Settings.

If your computer is defaulting to a lower power card, you can set to always run on the higher performance card using that card’s control panel. See your graphics card manufacturer documentation on how to assign an application to a GPU.

When running in a web browser, the browser application you are using must be set to run on the highest performing card. See your graphics card manufacturer documentation on how to assign an application to a GPU card.

See HxGN SDx Web Client platform recommendations for specific information and instructions for your GPU card.
