Create a technical query

What types of technical queries can I send and receive?

The three types of technical queries are:

  • Incoming Technical Query – Initiated by the contractor to request information from the originating company.

  • Outgoing Technical Query – Initiated by the originating company to request information from the contractor.

  • Internal Technical Query – Initiated within the organization, company, or contractor to request information across departments or disciplines.

In a project communication feature set, select the type of technical query you want to send.

  1. Select the Contract, To organization, Security Code, and either the To role or To user.

  2. Select Next and browse to any external files you want to relate to the technical query.

  • The From CC users get a technical query issue notification step and the To CC users get a technical query receipt notification step. To acknowledge the step, select Actions > Acknowledge. To know more about how to manage the users displayed in the From CC and the To CC boxes available in the New Technical Query window, see Create distribution lists.

  • The Is contractual compliance review required? option (selected by default for outgoing and incoming technical queries) in the Response Control tab sends the technical query for a compliance review before issuing the technical query to the contractor.

Create an action

What happens when an action is created? 

The action is automatically attached to the Action workflow, and a notification is sent to the recipient's To Do List.

  1. Select the required communication type feature set, and click Create Action.

    SHARED Tip You can also select an object, and click Actions > Create [Type] Action.

  2. Provide other details as needed.

  3. Click Next and browse to any external files you want to relate to the action.

  • The From CC users get an Action issue notification step and the To CC users get an Action receipt notification step. To acknowledge the step, select Actions > Acknowledge. To know more about how to manage the users displayed in the From CC and the To CC boxes available in the New Action window, see Create distribution lists.

  • Selecting the Is contractual compliance review required? option in the Response Control tab sends the outgoing action for a compliance review before issuing the action to the contractor.

  • Selecting the Follow up required option in the Response Control tab sends a Review responses step to the originator.

Update a technical query or an action

  1. Click Actions > Update.

    SHARED Tip From the Prepare Content page, click the Update button.

  2. Update the information for the technical query or the action, as required.

  • You can update a technical query or an action when it is in the RESERVED state.

  • The due date is defined by the contract on outgoing actions.
