What happens when I make changes to a default calendar?

Calendars are used to calculate the duration of work steps and work packages. In turn, those durations are used to calculate the project plan. When a calendar is changed, the duration of work steps or work packages that use it changes. In turn, that impacts the project plan.

  1. Click Enterprise > Calendars .

  2. Use the Global tab to work with tenant calendars, or the Project tab to work with project calendars.

  3. In the Calendars list, click Options > Edit.

  4. Make any changes you need to, including:

    Defining when work usually happens

    1. In the Work week section, choose the days of the week when work starts and ends.

    2. In the Hours per day section, enter number of working hours per day.

    3. In the Work timings section, select the start time and end time for each working day.

SHARED Tip You can add the work timings and the breaks for each day using the Add work hour option.

Setting holidays or other time off

    1. Click the date on the calendar and then click Edit .

    2. Provide a name of the day and choose the reason for the time off, Holiday or Day off.

A day off can be planned, such as a day of required training or a company celebration. A day off can also be unplanned, such as a day with dangerous weather or public transportation strikes.

    3. Click Create.

Setting overtime or other time working

    1. Click the date on the calendar and then click Edit .

    2. Provide a name for the day, and choose the reason for the work time, Exception.

An exception is a day when the work that happens does not follow the normal pattern for this calendar. For example, exceptions include working on a weekend day, overtime on a work day, or a short work day.

    3. Choose the hours in the Work timings section, then click Add .

For example, if the work starts at 6:00 AM and ends at 3:30 PM, with a one-hour lunch break at 10:00 AM and a half-hour rest break at 12:00 PM. You add all the following timings: 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

    4. Click Create.

  5. Click Update.

SHARED Tip To set a different calendar as the default, in the Calendars list, click Options > Set as default.
