  1. In the authoring tool, open the drawing that you want to compare to a previously published version in SmartPlant Foundation.

  2. Click SmartPlant > Browser.

  3. Type the names of the documents that you want to search for in SmartPlant Foundation.

  4. Click Browse Document.

    A list of documents matching the search criteria is displayed in the lower portion of the dialog, as shown in the example below. By default, the documents are sorted by Creation Date. You can sort the result by clicking the column header.

  5. Scroll through the list to select the Revision and Version of the document you want to compare with the currently opened drawing.

    The Compare with Tool button is activated when you make a selection.

  6. Click Compare with Tool to open the Desktop Client and graphically compare the selected version with the existing tool version of the document.

  7. In the Desktop Client, select the document revision that you want to compare with the corresponding document in the authoring tool in the tree or list view.

    You must open the Desktop Client from an authoring tool using the SmartPlant > Browser or Tools > SmartPlant > Browser command to be able to compare a revision with the latest tool data.

    • The software compares the selected document with the tool document in the authoring tool from which you opened the Desktop Client.

    • The document revision you selected and the corresponding tool document appear in side-by-side graphical views.

    • A list of differences between the two documents appears in a comparison results table under the graphical views.

    • Differences between the two documents appear in different colors. By default, new items appear in red, deleted items appear in green, modified items appear in blue, and items that are the same appear in black. You can change these default colors by clicking Set View Options .

  8. To center the display on a particular item on both Navigate tabs, click the item in the table.

    • When you click an item on the Navigate tab or in the table, the software also displays properties for the selected item in the Properties window. The properties are color coded to show whether they are new, deleted, modified, or the same.

    • By default, the software centers on an object in the drawings when you click the object in the comparison results table. You can change this default auto-focus behavior by clicking Set View Options , and the changing the options on the Auto-focus tab.

  9. To display the changes for a particular item in the Properties window, click the item in the appropriate graphical view.

    SHARED Tip To automatically find an object in the comparison results table, click an object in the graphical view. This is the behavior if you have selected Yes for the When selecting an item in the drawing, do you want to automatically find it in the list of changes? option on the Auto-focus tab of the Select Display Parameters dialog box.

  10. To sort a column in the comparison results table alphabetically, click the column header.

    • You can also right-click the column header and then click Sort to change the sorting for the column.

    • To sort the column in reverse alphabetical order, click the column header again.

  11. To filter a column in the comparison results table, right-click the column header, point to Filter, and then click the type of information by which you want to filter the column.

    SHARED Tip To define a custom filter, click Filter > (Custom) on the shortcut menu. Then define your filter criteria in the Custom Filter dialog box and click OK.

  12. To move through the changes in the comparison results table, use the Next Change and Previous Change buttons on the toolbar.
