The Integrated Reference File Environment in the Schema Editor lets you view and modify data in a set of schema and tool schema files based on the differences between those files and a set of reference files. You can copy or replace data from a reference schema file into an active schema file, and copy or replace data from a reference tool schema file into an open tool schema file.

With this environment, you can copy data from schema and tool map files from a previous project into the schema and tool map files of a new project. This functionality allows you to deploy projects in less time by reusing configurations from other projects. For example, enumerated lists can be copied into a new project without requiring them to be manually re-entered.

The Integrated Reference File Environment identifies, for each object of a particular type, whether that object exists only in the source file, only in the reference file, or in both. Objects that are included in both the source file and reference file are further compared, and if any differences are found between the objects in the source and reference file, you can then update, create, or delete the source object based on the related reference object.

The set of reference files used in the Integrated Reference File Environment should be a set of files that are part of the same reference project. Unexpected behavior may occur if the reference files are not interrelated.

The Integrated Reference File Environment does not support Undo and Redo actions.

Reference File Table User Interface

The Reference File Table User Interface, or left panel, displays the objects from the open schema files and tool map files. The Schema Comparison column shows the differences between the schema file and its reference schema files. The other columns display the comparison between the tool files that are open with the corresponding reference tool schema files.

Several commands are available above the table display.

The Reference file list command allows you to create, edit, view, or set the active reference file list. For more information, see Configure the Reference File List.

The View command allows you to toggle between the Rows showing mapping and the Independent columns modes. With the Rows showing mapping mode, information is organized by row so that the information for the tool schemas is aligned with the schema object they map to. With the Independent columns mode, the information is shown with each column being independent of all other columns. The Rows showing mapping mode is the default.

The Show command allows you to display objects in the table by object type. You can choose to display class definitions, edge definitions, enumerated lists, units of measure lists, interface definitions, or relationship definitions in the Reference File Table.

The Filter Rows command allows you to show or hide objects based on their similarities or differences. You can also show or hide the file name rows at the top of the table with this command. This command is available only if the option to view in the Rows showing mapping mode is selected.

The Filter Columns command allows you to show or hide the tool comparison columns. The Schema Comparison column cannot be hidden, but any of the tool comparison columns can be hidden.

For more information on the Show, Filter Rows, and Filter Columns commands, see Filter the Reference File Objects in the Integrated Reference File Environment.

The Reference File Table displays objects in different colors to indicate the level of difference between the two files. For more information, see Integrated Reference File Environment Color Legend.
