Every relationship must point to two objects: one at end 1 of the relationship, and another at end 2 of the relationship. If one or both of these objects are missing, the relationship is referred to as a dangling relationship. In most cases, a dangling relationship should not exist. If the software finds any dangling relationships, they should be deleted. You can view and delete dangling relationships with the Process Dangling Relationship command, which is located in the Tools > Schema and Tools > Tool Schema File menus.

In the following example, the SmartPlant schema is modified, but you can use the same process to modify a tool map schema.

  1. In the SmartPlant Foundation Desktop Client, click Find > Integration > Schema Documents.

You must be logged on to the SmartPlant Foundation data warehouse database and have a schema administrator role to access commands on the Integration menu.

  2. Type CMF* in the Find dialog box, and click OK.

  3. Right-click the CMF file, and then select Edit > Check Out to display the Check Out dialog.

  4. Select OK.

  5. In the New Items window, right-click the new version of the CMF file, and select Launch Schema Editor.

  6. On the Set Active Configurations dialog, select the schema version that you want to view. For more options, select Advanced.

  7. Select OK to set the configuration.

  • The CMF file must be checked in to SmartPlant Foundation before users can publish from an authoring tool.

  • By default, changes to the SmartPlant Schema are written to all versions managed by the CMF file. Although you can choose to write changes to only selected versions, we do not recommend doing so.

If you choose to view one version of the schema (Specify configurations to display window) but write changes to all versions (Set Configurations for new objects window), an information window appears when you select OK, indicating that you will be prompted with every change to the schema to confirm that you want to write the changes to all versions. Select OK to continue.

  1. Click Tools > Tool Schema File > Process Dangling Relationships to view and remove dangling relationships in the tool map schema file.

Click Tools > Schema > Process Dangling Relationships to view and remove dangling relationships in the SmartPlant schema file.

  2. In the Process Dangling Relationships dialog box, select the relationships to remove, and click Delete.

  3. Click OK to delete the relationships.
