The starting point of any cross-company subcontracting process is the handover procedure. The fundamental purpose of handover is to translate the provided 3D data so that it can be successfully used in downstream operations and maintenance activities. Within the context of Smart Interop, this involves converting Smart 3D data, as well as any legacy PDS and PDMS data essential to operations and maintenance, to the Smart Interop Object format.

The Smart Interop Object format provides a single platform for Smart 3D, PDS, and PDMS design tool data.

Converting design tool data to the Smart Interop Object format is a multi-step process. This process begins with using Smart Interop Publisher to translate source files to Smart Models. A Smart Model contains graphics and data translated from Smart 3D, PDS, or PDMS. When you create a Smart Model from selected source files, the data is converted to the formats listed below:

  • .zvf

Contains an .svf file and multiple .vue files. A .zvf file enables you to access a sub-set of your model data without loading the entire model. If the entire model data does not fit into memory, portions are still accessible.

  • .xml

Contains data and relationships translated from the source files. Formatting is based on the Smart Interop schema.

After translating the source files to the Smart Model format, you then use the Generate Smart Interop Object utility in Smart 3D to import the Smart Model data into the Smart 3D database as Smart Interop Objects. After import, the Smart Interop Objects display in the system hierarchy as persisted Smart 3D design objects.
