Running the Generate SIO Utility with data sources such as PDMS can sometimes produce generic elements. Similarly, a structural element might be automatically created as an equipment object. In these instances, you can use the Convert Smart Interop Object custom command to assign the appropriate class to the generic element or to transform the equipment object to the appropriate structural object.
Before you begin, make sure that the Convert Smart Interop Object custom command is added to the software. The ProgID for this command is ConvertSmartInteropObject,Ingr.SP3D.Common.Client.Commands.ConvertSIOCMD. See Add custom commands in the Common Help.
-
Open a design session in Smart 3D.
-
Click Tools > Custom Commands, and run the Convert Smart Interop Object custom command to display the Convert Smart Interop Object toolbar.
-
Click Select and then select the Smart Interop Object to convert graphically or from the Workspace Explorer. You can select one or multiple Smart Interop Objects as long as the object is currently in Working status.
-
Select More ... in the Output Object Type list to open the Select Object Type dialog box.
-
Select the object type to which the selected Smart Interop Object is to be converted, and then click OK.
-
In the Parent box, select the system parent for the output Smart Interop Object. If you are converting a single Smart Interop Object, the parent system of the input Smart Interop Object displays by default. If you have selected multiple Smart Interop Objects to convert, the Parent box is empty and requires you to select a valid common system parent for the output Smart Interop Objects.
-
To convert multiple Smart Interop Objects to a specific single tag typed object, select Merge Selected Objects. This option is not available if you are converting a single Smart Interop Object.
-
In the Reference Object list, select the object to use as the reference object, if needed. This option is available only when you have selected multiple Smart Interop Objects and the Merge Selected Objects check box is selected.
-
Click Convert to convert the selected Smart Interop Object to the specified object type. After the output Smart Interop Objects are created, the corresponding input Smart Interop Objects are deleted.
The table below summarizes the input and output for each of the three possible workflows for using the Convert Smart Interop Object custom command.
