Prerequisites

To route a purchase length pipe with mixed end preparations, you need to define the necessary reference data as mentioned below.

  • In the Pipe Stock sheet in the Piping Catalog workbook, define the Industry Commodity Code, Purchase Length, Minimum Pipe Length, Maximum Pipe Length, Flow Direction [1], and Flow Direction [2].

  • Specify the in and out flow directions for any end fittings or elbows with mixed ends. The software uses the flow directions for pipe ports orientation.

  • The Piping Commodity Filter sheet in the Piping Specification workbook must contain pipe bends and related data to avoid errors while generating parts.

  • Define functional short codes for elbows that do not have any fittings defined in the Piping Specification workbook. See Piping Materials Class Rules > Default Change of Direction Per Spec in the Piping Reference Data Help.

  • For Purchase Length Basis Option, select By user - with split so that the software places splits as you route pipe runs with a standard purchase length. See Piping Rules > Piping Specification Rules in the Piping Reference Data Help.

  • The Weld Short Code in the Pipe Takedown Parts sheet must be Butt Weld to use Insert Split Insert Split. The Pipe Takedown Parts sheet is in the Piping Specification workbook.

  1. Click Route Pipe Command on the vertical toolbar.

  2. Select a starting point for the pipe.

  3. On the New Pipe Run Dialog, specify the required properties, and then click OK.

  4. Click Properties on the Route Pipe ribbon to display the Route Pipe Settings Dialog.

  5. On the Defaults tab, select True or False for the Use Purchase Length property.

    1. If you select True, the software locks the pipe length between the minimum purchase length (MPL) and the specified purchase length.

      You can only route one straight feature at a time.

      1. Click OK.

      2. Select a value from Straight Option list on the Route Pipe ribbon. For example, select 750 mm.

        The software locks the pipe length between the MPL and Straight Option value.

      3. Continue routing.

        The software places pipes of the specified purchase length, and inserts splits.

    2. If you select False, the software does not lock the pipe length to the specified purchase length.

      1. Click OK.

      2. Select a value from Straight Option list on the Route Pipe ribbon. For example, select 750 mm.

      3. In the Length box, enter a value for the length of the pipe run, and press ENTER. For example, enter 2400 mm.

    The software locks the length of the pipe run.

    1. Click the graphic view to commit routing the pipe run.

      The software places a pipe run of specified length, and inserts splits. If the specified length exceeds the purchase length defined in the specification, the software places pipes equal to the defined purchase length and a pipe equal to the excess length.

      SHARED Tip You can delete the excess piece of pipe. Select the excess piece of pipe, and press DEL. The software deletes the extra pipe but the split remains. Select the associated split and then delete it.

  6. Right-click to exit routing.
