Common Part Explorer displays common parts and standard parts. The Common Part Manager is the root node in the Common Part Explorer. The object types display as folders under Common Part Manager. Each object type folder contains the relevant common part groups and standard part groups. Each group contains its respective common parts and standard parts. The Common Part Explorer displays the selected Common Part Manager definitions.

Common Part Explorer

After the Common Part Service completes, the software creates the following groups and folders.

Common Part Manager

The Common Part Service creates a common part manager under the selected assembly and displays the manager in the Assembly tab of the Workspace Explorer. The Common Part Manager is the root node in the Common Part Explorer.

Common Part Folder

Each folder represents an object type and contains the Common Part Groups. The Common Part Explorer also displays a separate folder Unique Parts for parts that are not common.

Common Part Group

The software groups the Common Parts and assigns a name to the Common Part Group based on the naming rules. The service does not change the existing name of the part. The parts display as groups under folders based on the object or part type.

Standard Part Group

The software marks the common part group as Standard Parts group by changing the process purpose property of the common part group as Standard by Model or Standard by LookUp and assigns a name to the Standard Part Group based on the standard reference part name. The service does not change the existing name of the part.

Unique Parts

Parts that are identified as not common by the Common Part Service are added to the Unique Parts folder. Each object type folder contains a Unique Parts folder.

Common Part Service uses the parts from the Unique Parts folder as candidates when you run an update.

Excluded Parts

Common parts that are removed from a common part group are moved to this folder. Each object type folder contains an Excluded Parts folder.

Common Part Service excludes the parts from the Excluded Parts folder when you run an update.

Relocated Parts

This folder contains relocated parts. The Relocated Parts folder is listed under the Common Part Manager.

Parts are moved to this folder under the following conditions:

  • When you remove a part from the Excluded Common Parts folder.

  • When you remove a part from the Unique Parts folder.

  • When you assign the parent assembly of a part to a new assembly and the common part definitions associated to the assemblies are different.

Common Part Service uses the parts from the Relocated Parts folder as candidates when you run an update.
