To configure a web API for Smart 3D, you must configure:

  • Database connection and prerequisites - Using the web API's Configuration Utility, you provide information like database, caching, and messaging.

  • The web server:

    • Continuing with the Configuration Utility for the web API, you provide information like the website name and authorization provider.

    • Using other tools, you configure other parts of the environment like the application pool, web server file permissions, access claims, and app settings.

  • The web service - Returning to the Configuration Utility for the web API, you choose how many service instances to run. For the Smart 3D web API, you also choose the sites and plants to use.

Before you can configure a web API on a machine, make sure that the following are already installed.

Where to start

No matter what your goal is, you start with the Configuration Utility for one of the web APIs.

There are separate utilities for the Smart 3D web APIs and Smart 3D Admin web APIs. While many of the steps are the same and the same help topics are used for both, you must configure each web API on a machine separately using its utility.
