This example workflow shows you how to create a basic heat exchanger using the Design Equipment command in a local coordinate system.

  1. Open Precision Input Precision Input ICON from the View Manipulation Toolbar.

    Precision Input

  2. Select Active Coordinate System, and select a coordinate system to use. In this example, we'll be using the U21 CS coordinate system.

Design Heat Exch Select U21 CS

  3. Select Piping Tab > Design Equipment Command to display the Design Equipment Controls.

  4. Select Browse Catalog Com_Browser to display the Select from Catalog Dialog.

  5. Browse to Equipment > Process > Heat Exchangers > KettleHeatExchangerAsm, and select OK.

  6. Select the parent system for the equipment. In this example, we'll be using the Equipment system.

    Design Heat Exch Select System

  7. Type E-102 in the Name box.

Design Heat Exch E-102 for Name

  8. Type 2 ft for X, -15 ft for Y, and 10 ft for Z in the Precision Input view.

Design Heat Exch Enter Position of Equip Origin

  9. Select in a graphic view to accept the location.

The heat exchanger's equipment origin triad displays in the graphic view.

  10. Select Finish and Modify Finish Modify ICON to create the design equipment and then continue to edit it.
