Selectthe equipment to constrain.

Select Constraints on the Place Equipment Controls.

Select Align from the Add Constraint list.

Select a surface on the equipment. For example, if you have several pumps you want lined up, you would pick the front pump surface. Use QuickPick if needed.

Select a surface in the model to which to align the equipment surface you selected. Again, use QuickPick if needed.
The equipment moves to align the surfaces.

In the Offset box, type the distance, if any, that you want between the two surfaces.

Complete the placement:

Select Finish (CTRL + ENTER) to save your changes and exit the command.

Select Finish and Modify (CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER) to save your changes and then start the modification of that object.

Understanding the Align Constraint
The align relationship makes the axes of two cylindrical surfaces collinear or constrains two planar surfaces to be parallel. When planar surfaces are aligned, the surface normals point in the same direction with the indicated offset distance between them:
