Mouse Icon Piping Tab > S3D_Insert_Pipe_Component ICON

Places components such as valves, steam traps, strainers, tees, turns, and fire protection items. When inserting components, the software automatically splits the straight pipe and adds the necessary mating components when required. This command also places surface mounted components (such as ultrasonic flow meters or penetration sleeves) that do not split a pipe run.

The system uses the pipe specification, nominal diameter of the selected pipe run, and the geometry of the insertion point to filter the available components. For example, if the insertion point is not at the end of a pipe run or at an equipment nozzle, turn components are not included in the list of available components. When you insert a component, the software generates any mating and connection parts required to connect the inserted part to the adjacent objects.

When inserting components, you can use the Precision Input ICON Precision Input command on the graphic view toolbar to position the components precisely on a pipe run.

You can insert an end component (such as a blind flange, cap, or plug) in a new pipe run on an open end of an existing run. The specifications of the pipe runs can be different. This technique allows you to add end components to the ends of runs that have restricted permissions, are in a different location in a Global Workshare, or use different reference data.

If you specify that the component should be created as a new run by selecting S3D_Pipe_Run ICON New Pipe Run in the Run group, the software populates the Pipe Run Controls with the properties belonging to the existing run (that is, the run you selected in which to insert the component).
