Displays when you modify linear members.

General

Parent System

Specifies the parent system for the object. Recently used systems that are appropriate to assign as the parent system for this object display in the list along with the Select from Workspace and Select from Model options. The most recently used system displays at the top.

The parent system of the object must have an Approval Status of Working before you can change the Parent System value. If the Approval Status of the parent system is not set to Working, this value is read-only.

Select Interactively

Turns on or off the interactive selection. When this option is on, you can select the parent object in a graphic view or any of the explorers.

Select from Workspace ICON Select from Workspace

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Workspace tab open. The workspace is the subset of the active model database you specified when you started your design session. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then select OK.

Select from Model ICON Select from Model

Displays the Select Parent System Dialog with the Model tab open. The model is all the objects in the active model database, including those that are not part of your workspace. Navigate the hierarchy to select the parent system, and then select OK.

Cross Section

Specifies the cross-section catalog item to place. Recently used cross-sections are listed first. Use the search box to locate the cross-section you need or click Browse Catalog Com_Browser.

Com_Browser Browse Catalog

Displays the cross-section catalog data. Move through the hierarchy to find the objects you need, or type the name of the object in the Search box. See Select from Catalog Dialog.

Preview

Displays a preview of the cross-section.

Type

Specifies the type of member, such as a beam or column. The available member properties change depending on the member type that you select. This property is a hierarchical child of Type Category. To change the options on the list, edit the Structural Member Type select list in Catalog.

Displays the cross-section catalog data. Move through the hierarchy to find the objects you need, or type the name of the object in the Search box. See Select from Catalog Dialog.

Material

Specifies the material type. For example, type Steel, Carbon, or Concrete.

Grade

Specifies the object material grade, such as A36 or A529. The options on this list automatically change to show available grades for the selected Material.

Cardinal Point

Specifies the relative position of the structural cross-section to the member placement line. Nine cardinal positions (1-9) are available. The location of cardinal points 10 (center-of-gravity) and 15 (shear center) depend on the section shape. The local z-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 11 and 14. The local y-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 12 and 13. Cardinal points 10 through 15 are unavailable for designed members or cans.

Angle

Specifies the angle, in degrees or radians, by which the cross-section is rotated about the member axis. The zero-degree position is either the Z-axis or the X-axis of the active coordinate system depending on the member orientation. The active coordinate system is set using the Coordinate System control in PinPoint/Precision Input. The Angle property is not used when placing members using the Seated, Flush, or Centerline frame connections.

Reflect

Reflects or mirrors the cross-section about the member's local z-axis. This parameter affects both symmetric and asymmetric sections. For example, you can use this option to set flanges of a channel section to point in the opposite direction. The Reflect property is not available when editing members that have Seated, Flush, or Centerline frame connections.

Position and Orientation

Com_Move ICON Move

Moves the selected object.

S3D_Point_Start ICON Move From Position (Ctrl + T)

Specifies the point from which to start the move.

S3D_Point_End ICON Move To Position (T)

Specifies the point at which to finish the move.

S3D_Grids_CoordinateSystems_XYZ No Constraint (CTRL + 6)

Objects are free to move in any direction.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON East

Y-axis and Z-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the X-axis.

Y Axis ICON North

X-axis and Z-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the Y-axis.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_Elevation_Z ICON Elevation

X-axis and Y-axis coordinates are locked. Object moves freely along the Z-axis.

Plane Elevation Elevation Plane (CTRL + 1)

Z-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the X-Y coordinate plane.

Plane East-West East-West Plane (CTRL + 3)

X-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the Y-Z coordinate plane.

Plane North-South North-South Plane (CTRL + 2)

Y-axis coordinate is locked. Object moves freely in the X-Z coordinate plane.

Rotate (Ctrl + R)

Starts rotation for the selected object. See Rotate equipment for one example of how to use these controls.

Press RIGHT and select Rotate to rotate the object 90 degrees clockwise about the active axis.

Press LEFT and select Rotate to rotate the object 90 degrees counter-clockwise about the active axis.

Angle Step

Specifies the angle about the axis that the object rotates when you select Step Rotation S3D_Angle_Step. Enter a value in the Angle Step box or select a blank space in the control panel to remove the input focus from the box.

Press G to set the focus to the active graphic view.

Press CTRL+LEFT to rotate the object clockwise one step about the Axis.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+LEFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise one step about the Axis.

S3D_Angle_Step Step Rotation

Rotates the object corresponding to the defined angle one step about the active axis. This control is not available if Angle Step is undefined or is set to zero.

Select a blank space in the control panel to remove the input focus, and then press G to set the focus to the active graphic view.

Press SHIFT to rotate the object counter-clockwise.

S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON Active Axis for Rotation (UP arrow)

Specifies the axis about which Smart 3Dx rotates the object. The available options include: S3D_CartesianCoordinate_East_X ICON X-Axis, Y Axis ICON Y-Axis, and S3D_CartesianCoordinate_Elevation_Z ICON Z-Axis.

This option does not display for grids.

S3D_Target_Reposition ICON Reposition Rotate Origin

Moves the rotation triad to a position that you specify. The rotation triad indicates the point about which the rotation occurs. Select a point in the graphic view to specify the new location.

S3D_Target_RepositionToOrigin ICON Reset Rotate Origin

Moves the rotation triad origin to the origin of the selected object.

If keyboard shortcuts are not working when you move or rotate objects, select the application title bar to reset the focus. Smart 3Dx indicates focus by displaying the bright blue border.

Completion

Com_Cancel Cancel (ESC)

Cancels all changes and exits the command.

Finish (CTRL + ENTER)

Saves all changes and exits the command.

Finish Modify ICON Finish and Modify (CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER)

Saves all changes, and then selects the objects for modification.

To Do List Indicators

A To Do List indicator displays in the top right corner of the Modify dialog when you select one or more objects that are on the To Do List. The icons that display are the same icons used in the To Do List Dialog (SHIFT + T), and the Modify dialog displays the most critical status (Error Com_Attention ICON, Out -of Date Com_Pending, and Warning Com_Warning). Select the icon on the Modify dialog to open the To Do List Dialog (SHIFT + T) and make the necessary corrections.

Com_Attention ICON Error

Indicates a serious problem.

Com_Pending Out of Date

Indicates that the related business object could not be processed. For example, the user does not have Write access to the object.

Com_Warning Warning

Indicates a problem that might not be serious, but still needs to be checked.

Locked Objects

Locked

Indicates one of the following situations:

  • You do not have Write permissions to one or more objects.

  • One or more of the selected objects is not in a working state.

Set the Approval State property to Working, and you must have Write permissions to the object. Otherwise, you cannot modify the selection.
