Builds a filter that you can then use when you define a workspace. See Define a workspace using an existing filter.

The dialog contains tabs that let you pick the appropriate categories for the filter criteria.

Hierarchy

Hierarchy explorers display the contents of the database in a hierarchy that reflects the various relationships defined for the design objects. When you select an item from the hierarchy, Smart 3Dx adds that criteria for the filter definition to the section on the right. For hierarchies such as System, Assembly, and Analysis, the selections you make expand the objects returned by the filter. WBS and Space restrict the results of the filter.

System

Provides a tree view list of all the available systems you can include in your filter search criteria. The model is the highest system in the hierarchy and includes all subsystems. Systems can span disciplines and include many types of objects. You can select the Include Nested option to specify that you want your search criteria to include all objects within a system. For example, if you select this option, the software selects all children objects when you select a parent system. If you do not select this option, you select only the systems..

Assembly

Provides a tree view list of all the available assemblies you can include in your filter search criteria. The Assembly tab is not used in Model Data Reuse. You can select the Include Nested option to include all objects within an assembly. For example, if you select this option, the software selects all objects when you select an assembly. If you do not select this option, you select the assembly objects separately

Analysis

Provides a list of all the structural analysis models you can include in your search. The Analysis tab is not used in Model Data Reuse. An analysis model is a non-graphical, logical grouping of member systems that can be sent to a third-party analysis and design solver package. You can select the Include Nested S3D_Hierarchy_IncludeAll ICON option to include all objects within a category. For example, if you select this option, the software selects all objects when you select a category. If you do not select this option, you select the category and individual objects separately.

Space

Provides a list of all the named spaces and drawing volumes you can include in your search. The Space tab is not used in Model Data Reuse. Named spaces are regions in the model, such as fire or blast zones. Filtering on named spaces is useful particularly when you need to see the size, shape, and position of the named spaces that already exist. You can select the Include Nested option to include all objects within a category. For example, if you select this option, the software selects all objects when you select a category. If you do not select this option, you select the category and individual objects separately.

WBS

Provides a tree view of the model work breakdown structure to restrict the filters to objects assigned to the selected WBS. The WBS tab is not used in Model Data Reuse. WBS items override any other filter that applies to them, except for Object Type. The WBS is the breakdown of the model based on the construction work to be performed. The breakdown can consist of the model at the top level, as well as projects, contracts, and documents. You can modify a property for an object to associate it to a project. You can associate published documents to a contract and then reassign the document from one contract to another. Objects are associated to a document. You can select the Include Nested option to include all objects within a category. For example, if you select this option, the software selects all objects when you select a category. If you do not select this option, you select the category and individual objects separately.

  • A simple filter shows only objects assigned to the selected WBS items and the WBS items themselves. If you define a filter that contains only one WBS project, this filter returns the WBS project selected on the WBS Hierarchy Explorer and any objects assigned to that particular WBS project on the System Hierarchy.

  • To see all WBS objects on the WBS Hierarchy Explorer, you must create a compound filter. For example, you might create a filter that contains all system or WBS objects. This filter would return all objects on the System tab and all WBS objects.

Asking Filter ICON Asking Filter

Creates an asking filter. An asking filter prompts you for specific values for certain properties.

S3D_Hierarchy_IncludeAll ICON Include Nested

Specifies whether you want your search to include all objects under a selected node. For example, when you check this box and then select an object, when Smart 3Dx evaluates the filter (such as when you define a workspace), the software selects all sub-objects under that object. If you do not check this box, only the selected object is included in the objects returned when the software evaluates the filter. This option is unavailable for certain tabs on this dialog.

Select Only Nested Assemblies

Specifies whether you want to limit the filter to nested assemblies.

Filter Criteria

Specifies the criteria that you have selected for the filter. A section displays for each tab that you have used. Click Clear All to remove all the criteria from the filter. Click Clear to remove only the criteria from that section. Select specific criteria, and then click Delete ICON Remove to remove those criteria. When you select a specific criteria, Smart 3Dx displays that criteria in the hierarchy. You can collapse or expand the sections using the arrows in the section headings.

Name

Specifies the name of the filter. Filter names cannot contain the apostrophe ' character.

Path

Specifies the path to the folder in which Smart 3Dx stores the filter. By default, Smart 3Dx stores your filters in My Filters.

Point to the Path box to display the full path to the filter as a tool tip.

Display filter path.gif

Select the small triangle at the right edge of the Path box to display the available folders. You can expand the folders as necessary to navigate to the folder you need.

Alternatively, type part of the name of the folder into the Search box. As you type, the folders that contain that text display in the list.

Permission Group

Displays the permission group to which the object belongs. When you create a new filter, the software automatically sets the Permission Group to the Permission Group defined for the filter Path. To change the Permission Group, select the filter from the Define Workspace Dialog and click Edit. Permission groups are created in Project Management.

Approval States

Specifies the status of the selected object or filter. Changing this property sets the Status. The display depends on your access level. You might be unable to change the status of the object. The list is defined by the ApprovalStatus codelist. Smart 3Dx saves an object to the database when you change that object's status. Use Undo (CTRL + Z) to reverse the status change.

You can only edit or manipulate an object with a status of Working.

Created

Specifies the creation date of the object.

Modified

Specifies the date of the last modification to the object.
