  1. Place equipment from the catalog.

    -OR-

    Design a heat exchanger using shapes.

  2. Select the equipment or design equipment component you placed in step 1 from the System Hierarchy Explorer. The shape displays as a wireframe in the model. Selecting equipment displays the Place Equipment Controls. Selecting design equipment displays the Design Equipment Controls. The equipment properties display in the Properties.

    Selecting equipment or design equipment graphically instead of from the System Hierarchy Explorer displays the Shape Controls. The Place Design Solid Command needed to perform this procedure is not available from Shape Controls.

    The following example shows an equipment wireframe and the Design Equipment controls.

  3. Select Place Designed Solid , and position the equipment in the model.

    Select Move Com_Move ICON to specify a location.

    Select Rotate to rotate the equipment about the active axis.

    Use keyboard shortcuts to quickly rotate equipment and select control points. See Equipment Keyboard Shortcuts.

    The software adds the new designed solid as a child of the equipment or design equipment component, and displays the Place Design Solid Controls as shown in the graphic below.

  4. Edit the equipment properties to meet your requirements.

  5. Select the next shape for your designed solid from the Insert list, and then specify the dimensions for the second shape using the Properties.

  6. Position the new shape on the equipment, and select to place a wireframe of the new shape.

    In the example below, the second shape is a sphere.

  7. Using the Design Solid Operators, specify whether the second shape is added Add Operator, subtracted Subtract Operator, or suppressed Suppress Shapes.

    Design solid using Suppress Operator Suppress Shapes (the sphere is visible only when you select it from the System Hierarchy).

  8. Complete the placement:

    • Select Finish or press CTRL + ENTER to save your changes and exit the command.

    • Select Finish and Modify Finish Modify ICON or press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER to save your changes, and then start the modification of that object.

    • Select Finish and Repeat Finish Repeat ICON or press SHIFT + ENTER to save your changes, and then restart the command using the same options.
