Displays properties for planning joints. The order in which the properties display in your view depends on your configuration.
Active Joint
Specifies whether the weld is active or inactive.
Approval State
Specifies the status of the selected object or filter. Changing this property sets the Status. The display depends on your access level. You might be unable to change the status of the object. The list is defined by the ApprovalStatus codelist.
Smart 3Dx saves an object to the database when you change that object's status. Use Undo (CTRL + Z) to reverse the status change.
You can only edit or manipulate an object with a status of Working.
Created by
Specifies the name of the person who created the object.
Date Created
Specifies the creation date of the object.
Date Last Modified
Specifies the date of the last modification to the object.
Hyperlink
Specifies the URL or local file path associated with the object. Click the hyperlink to open the page or object in your default browser. Point to the hyperlink to display the URL or path as a tooltip.
Description
Specifies the descriptive text associated with the hyperlink.
URL
Specifies the web address or local file name associated with the hyperlink. The URL must include the protocol, such as http: or https:, as well as the domain name. For example, https://hexagonppm.com/.
Last Modified by
Specifies the name of the person who last modified the object.
Name
Specifies the name of the selected object. If the name is too long to entirely display in the box, point to the box to display the complete name as a tool tip. If the name is not defined by a rule, User Defined displays. If this name is generated by a naming rule, Naming Rule displays. If you type a name in this box, Smart 3Dx automatically changes the naming rule to User Defined.
Number of Weld Passes
Specifies the number of passes needed to build the weld to its required size.
Root Joint
Specifies whether the weld is a root (Yes) or leaf (No) weld.
Split Status
Specifies the split status of the planning joint. The status options include ByRule, By User, and Not Split.
Weld Accessibility
Specifies the weld access to the planning joint. The options are Closed space and Open space. Welding performed in a closed space is more expensive. As a result, you classify the weld regarding accessibility, depending on the building method. The red lines in the following graphic show closed-space welds.
Weld Anti-reference Fillet Size
Specifies the weld fillet size on the opposite side of a double-fillet weld based on the Weld Fillet Measuring Method value (Leg or Throat).
Weld Anti-reference Position
Specifies the weld position on the opposite side of a double-fillet weld based on inclination, rotation, and manufacturing orientation of the assembly. Displays Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, or Overhead.
Weld Assembly Type
Specifies the type of assembly where the welding is performed, such as Assembly, Block, or Built-up Profile.
Weld Category
Specifies the weld category within the selected weld type, such as One Sided Bevel or Two Sided Bevel.
Weld Classification
Specifies the classification of the weld electrode, such as AWS standard E7018.
Weld Direction
Specifies the direction of welding, such as Up, Down for a vertical position, or N/A for a horizontal position.
Weld Edge Preparation
Specifies the edge preparation, or groove type, of the connected plate parts.
Weld Field Fit Length
Specifies the pass length of the weld based on field conditions.
Weld Fillet Measure Method
Specifies the method of measuring the weld size. Select one of the following values:
Leg
The leg length of the weld.
Fillet weld:
Butt weld:
Throat
The throat thickness of the weld.
Fillet weld:
Butt weld:
Weld Fillet Size
Specifies the weld fillet size based on the Weld Fillet Measuring Method value (Leg or Throat).
Weld Inclination
Specifies the inclination of the axis for the planning joint measured from the horizontal plane. The value is calculated based on the manufacturing orientation of the assembly.
Weld Length
Specifies the design pass length of the weld.
Weld Location
Specifies whether the welding takes place in the field or the shop.
Weld Material Grade
Specifies the grade of the welding consumable.
Weld Material Name
Specifies the name of the welding consumable.
Weld Position
Specifies the weld position computed based on:
-
The degrees of the inclination of the weld axis.
-
The degrees of the rotation of the weld face.
The software calculates this value based on the manufacturing orientation of the assembly. The available values for the weld position are Flat, Horizontal, Vertical, or Overhead.

Weld Process
Specifies the shop process used, such as Shielded Metal Arc, Gas Tungsten Arc, or Plasma Arc.
Weld Root Gap
Specifies the gap distance between the parts of the weld.
Weld Rotation
Specifies the rotation of the weld face about the negative Z axis or vertical axis. This value is calculated based on the manufacturing orientation of the assembly.
Weld Rule
Specifies the weld rule used to create the planning joint.
Weld Sequence Number
Specifies the order of the weld in the welding sequence.
Weld Shape
Specifies the shape of the planning joint landing curve. The shape influences the work content.
Weld Side
Specifies the plate side on which the planning joint is located.
Weld Stage
Specifies the construction stage where welding is performed, such as Block, Pre-erection, or Erection.
Weld Status
Specifies the status of the planning joint with respect to the physical connection of joined parts. If the planning joint reflects the current physical connection, the status is Up to Date. If the physical connection geometry has changed, the status is Out of Date. If the physical connection and assembly properties have changed, the status is Out of Date Properties.
To update planning joints, select Update in the Action box of the Generate Planning Joints ribbon.
Weld Tail Notes
Specifies notes appearing in the tail of the weld symbol on a drawing.
Weld Testing Type
Specifies the required weld inspection method, such as Visual Inspection, Radiographic Inspection, or Liquid Dye Penetrant.
Weld Thickness
Specifies the overlap thickness of the connected parts. Smart 3Dx only uses this value for tee and butt welds.
Weld Type
Specifies the type of weld, such as Tee Weld, Butt Weld, or Lap Weld.
WPS Number
Specifies the welding procedure specification number.
