5.0

After installing Smart API Manager, you have to configure it before it can be used. The configuration process will create and configure the Management Database as well as configure IIS, security, and other system settings required to run Smart API Manager.

There are three configuration workflows

There are three configuration workflows:

  • Interactive - You manually step through the Configuration Utility.

  • Automatic - You use a saved configuration file with the Configuration Utility

  • Silent - You use a saved configuration file with the command line.

Which workflow is right for you?

Which workflow you can use depends on what you are doing:

  • Configuring the first instance of Smart API Manager installed in your environment - You must configure the instance interactively.

  • Configuring an additional instance of Smart API Manager, or upgrading a previous instance - You can configure the instance using any workflow. However, to configure automatically or silently you must first save the current configuration file. Then you can configure the instance interactively or silently.

Consider using a configuration file (automatic or silent configuration) when you need to configure an instance that is identical to a previous or existing instance. For example:

  • Software upgrade - you install a new version of Smart API Manager. The new instance should be identical to the previous configuration.

  • Load-balancing - additional instances must be identical to the existing configuration.

If you're still not sure what you want to do, Step 1 of the configuration utility offers you several path options based on the goal you need to accomplish.
