Smart Construction provides the ability for planners to manage constraint requests placed on a component (or a set of components) that must be resolved before the work on that component can be performed. For example, if a pipe spool cannot be installed until a scaffold is built on site, the planner can create a constraint request for a scaffold that's associated with the spool.

For more information on creating constraints and how to manage them in Smart Construction, see Create, view, and manage constraints.

Although constraint management is delivered as an available feature of the software on initial setup, there are a few configuration tasks that may be necessary, depending on how your organization chooses to implement constraint management.

SHARED Tip In releases of Smart Construction prior to version 2019, constraints could be placed on an entire work package. Although placing constraint requests on individual components or a set of components better reflects how these requests are actually tracked and managed, if your implementation requires placing constraints at the IWP level, you will need to enable that functionality. For details, see Relating constraints to IWPs.
