When should I refresh work steps in an IWP?

You should refresh work steps in an IWP when you want to refresh rules of progress data for work steps in that IWP. You can choose to add any new and unassigned work steps to the IWP or to refresh the work step data.

  1. Click Work Packages on the project home page.

  2. Select an IWP from the Work Packages browser.

  3. Click Components.

  4. Click Refresh Work Steps.

  5. Select Add New and Unassigned Work Steps to IWP to add any new and unassigned work steps to the IWP.

  6. Select Refresh Work Steps Only to refresh the work step data.

The following table describes what happens with work step data when it is refreshed:

Add a new work step

Update an existing work step

Remove a work step

Work step that is in an IWP, and it does not have any progress reported

The new work step is added to the system, but it is not associated to any IWP.

The work steps are updated.

The work step is converted to a manually added work step.

The work step is not updated.

  • When you filter data on the Components window column headings and refresh work steps, the action applies to all components in an IWP, not just the filtered portion.

  • When you refresh work steps from the Smart Construction client, those items are given priority in the retrieve queue and are processed before any other items in the retrieve queue.
