When you install Smart Construction client software on a workstation you can enter a web host and site server virtual directory name that is saved as the default Server connection for the client. When you start Smart Construction on the workstation, this selection is the default in the Server list on the Logon Information dialog box.

If SmartPlant Foundation is set up to use integrated Windows authentication (IWA) for automatically logging on domain or local users, Smart Construction also uses IWA to automatically log on users. In that case, you may not see the Logon Information dialog box when you start Smart Construction. For information about setting up IWA, see Enabling Integrated Windows authentication.

To set up a new connection, enter the new server information in the Logon Information dialog box. The server name is added to the Server list.

  1. Start Smart Construction.

  2. On the Logon Information dialog box, click Options.

  3. Click New.

SHARED Tip You can click Edit to update the information for a server in the list. However, the default Server item cannot be edited using this dialog box.

  4. Enter the following information to create the connection:

    • Name - provides a nickname for the server connection that is displayed in the Server list.

    • Web Host - the name of the web server that hosts the Smart Construction server.

    • Web Directory - the name of the virtual directory that contains the Smart Construction site on the web server.

    • Secure Channel (SSL) - indicates if HTTPS is being used to connect to the site. When False, HTTP is used.

    • Trusted Site - indicates if authentication is required to connect to the web host. When False, a separate set of credentials is required to be entered in order to access the web host. When True, these credentials are not required.

  5. Click Validate.

If the connection information is valid, a successful connection message is displayed. (If Trusted Site is not selected, you will need to supply login credentials to the web host before the connection can be validated.)

  6. Click OK.

You can now log on to the server by selecting it from the Server list and entering a valid user name and password.
