Prior to installing SQL Server, you must previously have installed:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework.

  • Windows Installer.

  1. Start SQL Server Setup.

  2. On the SQL Server Installation Center wizard, in the left pane, select Installation.

  3. In the right pane, select New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.

  4. On the Product Key page, select Enter the product key and type the product key, then select Next.

  5. On the License Terms page, select the I accept the license terms check box and select Next.

  6. Select Next on subsequent wizard pages until the Install Rules page appears.

  7. On the Install Rules page, when the rule checking completes, select Next.

  8. On the Setup Role page, select SQL Server Feature Installation and select Next.

  9. On the Feature Selection page, select specific features as required or select Select All.

  10. Accept the default path for Instance root directory or define another path.

  11. Accept the default path for Shared feature directory or define another path.

  12. Select Next.

  13. On the Feature Rules page, when the rule checking completes, select Next.

  14. On the Instance Configuration page, select Default instance and select Next.

  15. On the Server Configuration page, select the Service Accounts tab and accept the default values.

  16. Select the Collation tab.

    If the national environment of the client computers is identical with the national environment defined for the server, just accept the default values; otherwise, define the settings for both Database Engine and Analysis Services as follows:

    1. Select Customize.

    2. Ensure that Windows collation designator and sort order is selected.

    3. From the list, select the appropriate Collation designator corresponding to the national environment defined for the operating system on the client computers. For example, if the client environment is Russian, select Cyrillic_General as the collation designator.

    4. Ensure that the Case-sensitive check box is cleared.

    5. Select OK.

  17. Select Next.

  18. On the Database Engine Configuration page, select the Server Configuration tab and under Authentication Mode, select Mixed Mode (SQL Server authentication and Windows authentication).

  19. In the Enter password box, type the required SQL Server system administrator account password.

  20. In the Confirm password box, re-type the same password.

  21. Under Specify SQL Server administrators, define at least one network user as system administrator by selecting either Add Current User or Add and selecting an existing network user.

  22. Select Next.

  23. On subsequent pages, add a network user where required and select Next, or just select Next.

  24. When you reach the Ready to Install page, review the list of components to be installed and select Install.

  25. On the Installation Progress page, once the setup process is complete, select Next.

  26. After selecting Close, restart the server computer.
