This command applies only for roles defined using the Use local machine and domain groups or Use site server and domain groups options, and not using the Define role for specified users option.

Allows you to update the site administrator group and the plant or project roles to reflect changes made to the Microsoft user groups upon which the group or role is based or changes made to the access rights for a role.

Roles control the access rights that a user has within a site and a plant, and, where applicable, in a project. These roles use Microsoft groups as their basis. When a role is created, the members of the selected Microsoft groups are stored in the database to help speed up the determination of a user's rights. Because these group members are stored in the database, changes to these groups outside Smart Engineering Manager must be refreshed using this command so that the changes will appear in the database. It is also necessary to execute this command after the access rights have been changed for a role.

This command is available at the following levels of the site hierarchy:

Site

Refreshes the site administrator user group and all plant structure and project roles under the site.

Role node under a plant structure

Refreshes all roles of the related plant structure only.

Role node under a project

Refreshes all roles of the related projects.

Roles (in the right pane)

Refreshes the selected roles only.

Automatically Refreshing Roles

To automatically refresh the roles on a scheduled basis, use the Refresh Site Roles utility to update the roles in a site. This utility is available on the Start menu and is delivered by default to ..\Engineering Manager\bin\PublishSiteRoles.exe. See Refresh Site Roles.

You must run the Refresh Users command or the Refresh Site Roles utility whenever the Smart Engineering Manager Web API is used to create a site, modify a site administrator user group, or to create or modify a role for a plant or project. This is essential to ensure that the plants or projects are visible in the Desktop version of Smart Engineering Manager and that other features of the software work properly.
