As-Built is the name given to existing plants that are fully operational and exist, within the software, in an owner operator domain.

Project Center is the name given to plants that are in the development/planning stage and not yet functional. The Project Center is found in the EPC-Project Mode.

As-Built

After a plant becomes operational, most of the activities, within Smart Instrumentation, are concerned with routine maintenance or plant modernization (revamps). To facilitate plant maintenance or modernization, you can create one or more projects using existing instrumentation data copied (claimed) from the operating plant. Each project is defined for one plant only, and a plant can have several associated projects. Plant modernization may involve the modification of a single instrument tag or loop or hundreds of loops or any other item in Smart Instrumentation.

Projects Center

During the development and planning of a site and its plants it may be required to sub-divide the plant to more than one group of engineers. You can create one or more projects using existing instrumentation data copied (claimed) from the plant under development. Each project is defined for one plant only, and a plant can have several associated projects.

When working in a project, you can copy (claim) from the As-Built plant/Project Center plant, items for the project. There are two claim modes, exclusive and non-exclusive, which is set by the System Administrator when making domain definitions. After creating the first project in the domain, the claim mode becomes set permanently for the current domain until the Project Administrator deletes all of the projects.

Claiming items is the final stage of defining the project scope. Before claiming items, you can copy them to the Buffer tab of the Project To Do List, or you can run the entire claim process without the interim stage of the buffer. The software automatically, based on relationships, figures out what other items must also be claimed, along with the items you selected in the As-Built/Project Center, and displays all the items in the Buffer tab of the Projects To Do List for you to review before completing the copy process to the project.

After you have copied (claimed) all the items you require to the project, you can begin making the changes you want to your project items. At any time during your work on the project you can copy more items from the As-BuiltProject Center/ plant to your project, copy from one project to another, or copy back (merge) your project items to the As-Built/Project Center.

Cables attached to cable drums cannot be claimed or merged to or from As-Built/Project Center or a Project. If a cable has been assigned to a drum, you should disconnect the cable before claiming or merging the cable. Failure to do so will result inconsistencies in the drum data.
