This section contains topics relating to the use and setting of the various Smart Instrumentation preferences. The preferences control the way the software displays items, stores data, interacts with different items and much more. Some of these preferences, such as temporary data paths, must be set for the software to function correctly.

Some preferences are set by your SPI administrator. The administrator then has the option of allowing users to edit certain preferences or not. If you see that some of your preferences are disabled (grayed out). This means that your administrator has set them so you cannot edit them.

When you change your preferences, you have the option to save them for the current project or as default preferences for all projects when you log in as the same user.

  • All preferences that you modify are saved in the same way. This means that if you want to save some preferences for the project, and make others default preferences for your user, you should do them separately. In other words, make all the changes that you want to save only for the project and select OK, and then make all the changes that you want to save in your default preferences and select OK. Each time, make sure to follow the instructions to save your preferences in the correct manner.

  • Domain/project-specific preferences are not included when you make a backup of your domain/project.
