The options on this tab enable you to set various profile defaults for new tag numbers. These defaults include settings for I/O types, specifications, hook-ups, dimensional data, Enhanced SmartLoop reports, and so forth.

Instrument type

Shows the instrument type identification as it appears in the Instrument Type dialog.

Instrument type description

Shows the description of the instrument type as it appears in the Instrument Type dialog.

Instrument specifications

The options in this group box allow you to create instrument specifications automatically when creating tag numbers belonging to the current instrument type profile.

Include instrument specification

Makes the options in the Instrument specifications group box available.

Specification form

Contains a list of specification forms that are assigned to the process function specified on the Instrument Types dialog. The form that you select becomes the default form for all instrument that belong to the current instrument type. If the specified form is defined as a multi-tag form, you can then select a specific format from the Multi-tag list format dialog.

Multi-tag list format (available only if you select a multi-tag spec form from the Specification list)

Allows you to select a specific format for the multi-spec form you selected from the Specification list. The software creates the specification as a master tag in a multi-tag specification. In this case, because you cannot move a master tag to a different multi-tag specification or redefine it as a single tag specification, the only way to change the specification for this tag is to delete the specification and then reassign a new specification to the tag.

If you do not select any format, the software creates the spec as a single-tag spec even if the source form is defined as a multi-tag form. Afterwards, you can move this spec it to a new multi-tag spec or an existing one.

Copy data from template

Allows you to select a form data template from which you want to copy the default data to a generated spec. You can do this only if you defined a form data template for the selected spec form in the Specifications module.

Maintenance event form

Allows you to select a form for automatic assignment to instruments for which you want to create maintenance event records. Maintenance event form assignment does not create a maintenance event record when creating an instrument tag but only displays the assigned form number on the Maintenance Event Properties dialog.

If the Maintenance event form box is empty, you need to restore the shipped maintenance event form 93 in the Specifications module.

Miscellaneous

Skip loop creation

Skips creating a loop when you create a new tag number. Note that Smart Instrumentation lets you associate a new tag with an existing loop at a later stage.

Process data workflow required

Sets the workflow status for new tag numbers to Process Data Required. This option is not enabled if the instrument type process function is General; in this case, you must set the workflow status for the tag number manually from the Workflow > Instrumentation/Process Data Browser.

Enhanced SmartLoop symbol

Allows you to define a default symbol that appears next to the tag name in Enhanced SmartLoop reports.

Symbol file name and path

Allows you to enter the symbol file path and name. Select Browse to get to the file. When you select Browse, the default path is the folder you specify under Preferences > Enhanced Reports > Enhanced SmartLoop > File Locations, in the Symbol folder field.

Set as default instrument type

Sets this instrument type as the default value for the instrument type code that you entered if you have multiple instrument types that use the same code.If you create a number of instruments in a single action such as a batch process, the software assigns this instrument type to any instruments using this code.

  • If you retrieve instrument data from Smart P&ID and this option is not selected, and no default instrument type is defined, the software creates an instrument without a type when running the To Do List task that creates the instrument.

  • In all other cases, if no default instrument type is defined, the software creates an instrument using the first instrument type on the list with the appropriate code.

Hook-ups

Enables you to assign a default hook-up profile to new tag numbers.

Include hook-ups

Includes hook-up defaults in the instrument type profile. Selecting this check box makes the Include in BOM check box, the Hook-up type and Hook- up lists available.

Include in BOM

Includes automatically tags belonging to the current instrument type in a Bill of Material, provided that these tags are assigned to a hook-up for which you generate the Bill of Material.

Hook-up type

Allows you to associate the current instrument type with a specific hook-up type.

Hook-up

Allows you to associate the current instrument type with a specific hook-up.

I/O type

Enables you to define a I/O type default for new tag numbers.

I/O type

Makes the list accessible for the selection of an appropriate I/O type.

Location

Enables you to set a default location for new tags.

Include location

Makes the Location list accessible for the selection of an appropriate location.

Dimensional data

Enables you to set a default dimensional group for new tag numbers.

Dimensional data

Includes dimensional data in the instrument type profile. Selecting this check box makes the Group name list available.

Group name

Allows you to select the default dimensional group from this list. Note that if you do not select any group from this list and the Dimensional data check box is selected, the default dimensional group for the new tags will be All Groups.

Copy From

Opens a dialog where you can select a source instrument type and copy profile data to the current instrument type. Note that this option does not apply to the definitions on the Calibration profile tab.

Function Block

Opens the Function Block Instrument Type Association dialog where you associate a function block with the current instrument type. This association will enable you to create new Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus PA tag numbers for automatic association with this instrument type. Note that this button is available only after selecting FieldbusFF (Foundation Fieldbus) or ProfibusPA from the SystemI/O type list on the General tab).
