On this dialog, you set and edit the preferences for cable routing. The options include setting the units of measure for the routing length and the tray position width, and setting the spare cable calculation parameters. Smart Instrumentation uses the values set here to calculate the total cable length.

To open this dialog, in the Wiring Module window, select Actions > Cable Routing Options.

Length unit of measure

Select the length unit of measure. This unit of measure applies to the following routing elements:

  • Cable length

  • Panel to routing distance

  • Section length

  • Cable spare length (if Fixed length is selected below)

Position width unit of measure

Allows you to select the width unit of measure of the positions included in the trays. After you have set the position width unit of measure at initialization, you must not change it. Although changing the length unit of measure recalculates length values in the new unit of measure, changing the position width unit of measure changes the label without recalculating the value of the position width.

Cable spare length

In this group box, you determine the method by which Smart Instrumentation calculates spare cable length. Note that for cable drums with status Design or Purchased, if you change cable spare length, the software recalculates the cable length, but not for drums with status Locked.

Fixed length

To add a fixed spare length to each cable, select this option and type a value in the box to the right.

Fixed percentage

To add a percentage of the length of each cable, select this option and type a value in the box to the right.

Panel to routing distance

Allows you to type the length from a junction box or marshaling rack to the beginning of a routing section.

Customize terminology

To customize the labels displayed in cable routing dialog boxes and reports, select this check box, and then select Terminology. Clear the check box to use the default terminology.
