You use this window to create connections between 2 or more plug-and-socket patch panels, or wiring equipment that have plug-and-socket groups. The Primary and Secondary device select list are populated by items you have previously selected in the Domain or Telecom Explorer. The Patch Wiring Cable select list is populated by all the reference cables that have connectors at both ends of the cable.

In the Reference Explorer, you must have created at least one reference cable with connectors at both ends before you can create a connection between patch panels.

You open this window by right-clicking on a plug-and-socket patch panel or wiring equipment, and from the shortcut menu selecting Actions > Patch Wiring.

Primary Device

Select from the list the item you want to use as your primary device. If the device you require does not appear in the list use the button to browse to the required device within the Domain or Telecom Explorer.

Patch Wiring Cable

Select from the list the cable you want to use to connect the two devices. The cable must have the same connector type as the devices you want to connect, for example Type A or 2-pins.

Secondary Device

Select from the list the item you want to use as your secondary device. If the device you require does not appear in the list use the button to browse to the required device within the Domain or Telecom Explorer.

Prompt for patch wiring operation messages

Select the check box for Smart Instrumentation to request confirmation that you want to continue with the patch wiring. If you do not select the check box then the patch wiring proceeds without any messages.

Primary Device

In this pane you make the connections between the primary device and the patch panel cables.

Panel (On both sides of the wiring equipment)

Displays the name of the secondary panel.

Strip (On both sides of the wiring equipment)

Displays the name of the secondary strip (plug-and-socket group) on the secondary panel.

Port (On both sides of the wiring equipment)

Displays the port name of the secondary panel to which the cable is connected

Plug-and-Socket Device

Displays the port names of the primary device. You connect and disconnect your cables to these ports.

Secondary Device

Displays the secondary device port names. You connect and disconnect your patch cables to these ports.

The destination of a connector is displayed in the Patch Wiring window providing that a destination of an opposite side can be explicitly identified. For example, a cable with two cable sets where each set is connected to a connector at both ends, displays their destinations in the Patch Wiring window. A cable with two cable sets connected to one connector at one end and two connectors at the other, cannot display their destinations in the Patch Wiring window.

The destination is not displayed in the Patch Wiring window when:

  • Wires at one end of a cable connected to a connector are not connected at the other end.

  • Wires of connected to a connector at one end are connected to multiple connectors at the other end.

  • Wires connected to a connector at one end are connected to conventional terminals at the other.

  • Destinations are displayed in the Patch Wiring window when a cable has multiple destinations as long as the above rules are met.

  • You can see the full destination path if it is not displayed in the Patch Wiring window. Right-click on a cable in the Primary Device pane or on a connector in the Secondary Pane, and from the shortcut menu select Destination.
