The options on the Import Mode tab allow you to set properties for handling source data for the current link. You can determine how the transfer of the source data affects the target data by specifying one of the following:

  • Insert new data and overwrite the existing data.

  • Insert new data and reject the existing data.

  • Delete existing data.

  • Move existing data within the same target domain.

If you select to insert and update the target data, you can also set the conditions under which identical source and target data will be overwritten.

Target database import mode

Select one of these buttons to determine the data transfer mode.

Insert and update

Inserts new source data and overwrite the target rows that are identical to the source rows. The Import Utility will insert and update the target according to the three options that you select from the Target database update conditions group box.

Insert

Does not overwrite the target rows during the import process. This means that the Import Utility will only insert new source rows into the target domain and reject existing ones. Selecting this button disables the three check boxes in the Target database update conditions group box.

If you are importing a value for which the number of characters exceeds the maximum allowed, the Import Utility truncates the extra characters in the target field in the Smart Instrumentation database. If, because of truncating the value, the string is identical to an existing value in the database, the Import Utility rejects the import if the value is required to be unique and the import mode in the import link properties is set to Insert.

Delete (available only when the link is assigned to the Single table import method)

Deletes existing data according to your settings in the Import Link window.

Move (available only when the link is assigned to the Single table import method)

Moves specified target data within the same target domain to another plant hierarchy item. You specify the pertinent plant hierarchy items in the Import Link window.

Target database update conditions

Use these options to set the conditions under which Import will overwrite existing target rows during the import process and whether to include associated tag numbers when deleting loop numbers.

Update for source containing a NULL value (available only if Insert and update is selected)

Select this option to overwrite all target fields even if the source fields contain a NULL value. Clear this check box to skip source fields which contain a NULL value.

Update for source containing a space or a zero value (available only if Insert and update is selected)

Select this option to overwrite all target fields if the source fields contain a space or a zero value; also, when changing data to a zero or space. Clear this check box to skip source fields that contain a space or a zero value.

Do not insert (available only if Insert and update is selected)

Select this option not to insert source rows which do not exist in the target table. Clear this check box to insert source rows that do not exist in the target table.

Deletion option

Delete associated tags

Select this option to delete all tag numbers associated with deleted loop numbers. This option is only available when importing loop numbers and if you selected Delete in the Target database import mode group box.

Refresh from source

Use these options to refresh the tables you imported previously. Remember that if you want to keep your previously imported tables, you need to select the same source and target data as you did in the previous import session. Then you select the appropriate source and target refresh keys. The target data is refreshed during the import process according to the content of the source and target refresh keys. If the Import Utility detects a change in the selected source refresh key contents (in comparison with the selected target refresh key content), the target field content is updated accordingly.

If the data was imported previously with this option selected, the same data records is refreshed from the source in subsequent import sessions even if the primary key in the target was changed.

The options below are available only if Insert and update in the Target database update conditions group box is selected.

Apply

Allows you to set the Import Utility to refresh the target data according to the refresh parameters you set in the Refresh Parameters dialog.

Parameters

Opens the Refresh Parameters dialog, where you set the import refresh parameters.
