The options in this tab are available only if the target table or module requires naming conventions, for example COMPONENT table or Instrument Index module. These options enable you to determine the way the Import Utility handles the naming conventions of the source data during the import process:

  • Verify that the imported tags contain a valid instrument type value.

  • Verify that the imported loops contain valid measuring variable values.

  • Include loop reference data during the import process.

  • Include tag number data from supporting tables when importing into the Instrument Index module.

You can also determine whether to insert leading zeros in the numeric segments of the tag and loop name string. Note, however, that this is a global Import Utility parameter that you set on the Preferences dialog.

Define the naming conventions in the link

Select this check box to let the Import Utility define the naming conventions using a link. You will define link between the source and target fields used for tag and loop number naming conventions in the Import to Table or Import to Module dialog.

Clear this box to define the naming conventions by entering a naming convention string in the Define Tag Name Structure dialog and/or in the Define Loop Name Structure dialog.

Redefine the naming conventions

Select this check box to redefine the links for the tag/loop naming convention parts of the source table.

Clear this option to use the existing naming convention link without redefining the links.

The tag number name structure is defined on the Naming Conventions dialog in the Administration module. If you select to redefine the naming conventions, you must assign new values to the tag segments.

Validate tag and loop segments

Select this check box to verify the following:

  • If the instrument type values of the imported tags in the COMPONENT table exist in the Instrument Type table (COMPONENT_FUNCTION_TYPE)

  • If the loop function values of the imported loops in the LOOP table exist in the Loop Function table (LOOP_FUNCTION)

  • If the measured variables of the imported loops in the LOOP table exist in the Loop Process Variable table (LOOP_PROC)

Clear this check box to skip the verification process.

By default, this check box is selected, thus enabling the validation check of the imported tags and loops before transferring the data. It is recommended not to clear this box to avoid import failure due to missing data.

Use loop reference data

Select this check box if you want to create loop numbers and import loop number properties together with tag number import. If you clear this check box, the software does not create any loop numbers in Smart Instrumentation.

If the COMPONENT table contains empty loop reference fields, you must clear this box to prevent failure of the Import Utility.

Use tag data

Select this check box to include tag number data from the Instrument Index module supporting tables. This option is only available when importing data into the Instrument Index module. Remember, if you select this option, you must define the naming conventions for all target <units> before you start the import process.
