This topic explains the procedure for retrieving published data for Honeywell Experion PKS instruments whose I/O termination blocks do not reside on the I/O card but elsewhere within your wiring design.

Before retrieving data, you must configure Smart Instrumentation to work in file mode. For details, see Configure Smart Instrumentation to Publish and Retrieve Data in File Mode.

  1. In Smart Instrumentation, select Tools > Interfaces > Honeywell.

  2. On the Honeywell Interface dialog, select Retrieve Honeywell data and select OK.

  3. In the Select Data XML File window, navigate to the .xml file that contains the Honeywell Experion PKS data and select Open.

SHARED Tip After selecting the file, two more windows open: Select Meta-data XML File and Select Tombstones XML File. Select Cancel in both windows.

  4. On the message box that appears on completion of the retrieval process, select Close.

SHARED Tip If errors occurred, select View Log to troubleshoot them.

  5. Select SmartPlant > To Do List.

If using Fieldbus tags, after retrieving the Honeywell Experion PKS data, but before running any tasks from the To Do List, you must make associations between Foundation Fieldbus device types, instrument manufacturers, and Smart Instrumentation instrument types. For more information, see Associate Device Types for DCS Vendors.

  6. In the To Do List window, select the Create/Update tasks for the controllers, slots, and I/O cards for the Honeywell Experion PKS items. However, do not select the Create/Update task for the channels.

  7. From the To Do List, select Run Task PPM All Outputs Graphic.

    • Performing this action creates the Honeywell Experion PKS controllers, slots, I/O cards, and so forth in the Domain Explorer under the Controllers folder.

    • For more details of available options when running tasks, see Run Tasks from the To Do List.

  8. In the Domain Explorer, create a DCS panel and rack, including I/O termination and terminal strip with channels and terminals.

The channels must have the same names or sequence as those in the To Do List.

SHARED Tip You can use an existing panel and rack, but it must include an I/O termination block and terminal strip with channels and terminals.

  9. In the Domain Explorer, drag the Honeywell Experion PKS slot from the Controllers folder to the rack of the DCS panel.

  10. In the I/O Termination properties, select the I/O card for the Primary or Secondary I/O Card.

  11. From the To Do List, run the Create/Update task for the channels.
