This dialog allows you to assign a process function to an instrument type which has no such association in Smart Instrumentation. If such an association exists, this assignment cannot be changed.

To access this dialog, select Define in Source tab on the Link Properties dialog. When setting the parameters for a new link and selecting a specific source database file or database for the first time, the Define Instrument Type Fields dialog opens automatically where you assign a source column as the column holding instrument type abbreviation fields and also assign a column as the column holding instrument type description fields.

The dialog options are as follows:

Left Pane

This pane holds all the available source instrument types, their descriptions and process function assignments.

Name

This field displays the source instrument type abbreviation.

Description

This field displays the source instrument type description.

Process Function

This field displays the process function assignment. The following background colors are used:

  • White background means an instrument type that has not yet been assigned a process function. Drag a process function to this field from the right pane to make the assignment.

  • Light blue background means an instrument type that needs to be assigned a process function. Drag a process function to this field from the right pane to make the assignment.

  • Gray background means an instrument type that has a process function assignment in Smart Instrumentation. This assignment cannot be changed.

Right Pane (Process Function)

This pane holds all the process functions that can be assigned to the source instrument types displayed in the left pane. Drag a process function from this pane to a white or blue field in the right pane. Note that you cannot assign a process function to a target instrument type if this assignment has already been made in Smart Instrumentation (the field is filled and is displayed in gray).

Display process function assignments

Allows you to filter the display of the instrument types in the left pane.

Instrument Type

Opens the Instrument Type Mapping dialog where you can map existing instrument types to source fields.

Clear All

Clears all the process function assignments you have made.

Define Fields

Opens the Define Instrument Type Fields dialog where you can reassign a source instrument type name and description to a target instrument type name and description.
