A home-run cable is the main communication highway between devices on a fieldbus network. A home-run cable serves the spurs in a given segment, and has a terminator at either end.
A spur is a part of a segment that drops off from the main segment (home-run) trunk. A spur may contain one or more instruments and cables that connect them to the home-run segment.
