Use this window to define an I/O assignment to an I/O card type.

I/O tag assignment in a fieldbus system means that you are assigning a segment as a whole.

You open the Segment I/O Assignment window from the Domain Explorer. Expand a panel that contains an I/O card, then, right-click the I/O card and on the shortcut menu, select Actions > I/O Assignment.

Segment List

The Segment list pane displays segments in your fieldbus system that you have not yet assigned to a channel.

Find segment

Allows you to type a segment name to locate it in the Segments data window.

Segments

Displays segments available for I/O assignment. To assign a segment to a channel, drag it to the appropriate channel in the Assignment details pane. Note that the software displays only those segments that are associated with instruments for which virtual tags have been created.

Assignment Details

The Assignment details pane is the right-hand pane in the Segment I/O Assignment window. It displays the details of fieldbus segments that are currently assigned to I/O channels.

I/O termination

Displays the fieldbus I/O termination that you selected in the Domain Explorer. To change the active item, select a different item from this list, or select to display Wiring Explorer, from which you can drag additional I/O termination cards to the list.

Rack

Displays the panel rack in which the current item is located.

Position

Displays the rack position of the current item.

Data Window

Displays the current channel / segment assignments. Note that after dragging a free segment to a channel, the software creates control system (CS) tags for all the virtual tags that exist under the current segment. The software lists the CS tags and virtual tags next to the appropriate segments. To cancel an I/O assignment, highlight a required segment and drag it to the Segments data window. To rename a selected control system tag, select Properties icon 16bit to open the Control System Tag Properties dialog.
